2 GB Minecraft server hosting

2 GB Minecraft server hosting suits two or three players on a vanilla Java server, or a few more on Bedrock. It is the smallest plan worth paying for: we would not recommend anything smaller, and for five players the 4 GB plan is the better buy.

Prices checked on 7 October 2026 on the hosts' own order pages. All prices include VAT.

The short answer

A 2 GB Minecraft server suits two or three players on a vanilla server, or a small Bedrock server. For five players choose a 4 GB plan, and for a modded server 8 GB or more.

What can you run on a 2 GB Minecraft server?

  • Two or three players on vanilla

A Java server uses close to 2 GB just to start and keep the spawn area loaded, so there is room for two or three players who mostly stay near one base.

  • A small Bedrock server

The Bedrock server software is lighter, so a 2 GB Bedrock server can handle a few more players.

  • Not enough RAM for mods

Modpacks, or Forge and Fabric with more than a handful of mods, need 8 GB or more.

A 2 GB Java server uses most of its memory just to start, so on this size every plugin and every extra chunk of view distance counts.

When does a 2 GB Minecraft server run out of memory?

A 2 GB Minecraft server runs out of memory once more than two or three players are online, or as soon as they spread out to explore. A Java server uses close to 2 GB just to start and keep the spawn area loaded, so a 2 GB plan has very little room left for players. In practice that means two or three players on vanilla or Paper without heavy plugins.

A 2 GB server is not enough for modpacks, for Forge or Fabric with more than a handful of mods, or for a group that spreads out to explore. Since version 1.18 the world is taller and generating terrain takes more work per chunk, so exploring is usually where a small server runs out of memory first.

2 GB Minecraft server plans for Java and Bedrock

Cheapest Minecraft Hosting and Lodehost both sell a 2 GB Minecraft server for Java. CheapestMinecraftHosting Mini costs €1.60 a month in Poland, on a shared Ryzen 9 7950X with 10 GB of NVMe storage. Lodehost Camp costs €5.95 a month in Germany, with 1 vCPU and 60 GB of SSD storage.

For Bedrock, the smallest plan at Astroworld Hosting is Camp: 2 GB with 2 vCPU for €5.95 when you pay monthly. Astroworld Hosting does not offer a 2 GB Java plan; its Java plans start at 4 GB.

Should you buy a 2 GB Minecraft server?

Buy a 2 GB Minecraft server only if there are no more than two or three of you. CheapestMinecraftHosting Mini costs €1.60 a month, and the 4 GB plan from the same host costs €3.20. For that small difference you get twice the RAM and a server that does not crash when someone flies off with an elytra. That is why we recommend 4 GB for groups of up to five players. By the rule the finder uses, five players on vanilla need about 3.7 GB, so a 4 GB plan fits them with a little room to spare.

For 2 to 5 players with vanilla Minecraft on Java in Poland (Warsaw), the finder recommends Cheapest Minecraft Hosting Starter: 4 GB, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5, for €3.20 a month when you pay monthly. The best plans at the other two hosts are Astroworld Mini Performance at €7.95 and Lodehost Mini at €7.95.

How to reduce lag on a 2 GB Minecraft server

A 2 GB Minecraft server can run without lag if you keep it light. These settings give two or three players the most room:

  • Run Paper instead of the vanilla server. It plays the same and uses the processor and memory more efficiently.
  • Lower the view distance in server.properties to 6 or 8 chunks. Every player loads fewer chunks, and on 2 GB that makes the biggest difference.
  • Set a world border and pre-generate the area inside it with Chunky, so the server does not generate new terrain while you play.
  • Skip the heavy plugins. A web map or a large economy plugin can use more memory than a small server has to spare.
  • Restart once a day, so the server starts each evening with all its memory free.

If you still run out of memory after this, the server is too small for your group, and a 4 GB server is the next step. All three hosts let you upgrade and keep your world.

Before you buy a 2 GB Minecraft server

  1. Count two or three players

Choose 2 GB only if no more than two or three people play at the same time. Five players need 4 GB.

  2. Check the edition

Lodehost and Cheapest Minecraft Hosting sell 2 GB for Java. The 2 GB plan at Astroworld Hosting is for Bedrock.

  3. Know the upgrade path

All three hosts move you to a bigger plan and keep your world, so starting on 2 GB does not lock you in.

Questions about 2 GB Minecraft servers

Is 2 GB enough for a Minecraft server?

For two or three players on vanilla, yes. For more players, a heavier set of plugins or any modpack, no. Choose 4 GB for up to five players.

Is 2 GB enough for a Bedrock server?

For a small group, yes. The Bedrock server software is lighter than the Java server, so 2 GB goes a little further on Bedrock.

How many players can a 2 GB Minecraft server hold?

Two or three players on a vanilla Java server, as long as they mostly stay near one base. A Bedrock server can hold a few more on 2 GB, because its server software is lighter. For five players or any mods, choose 4 GB or more.

How much does a 2 GB Minecraft server cost?

CheapestMinecraftHosting Mini costs €1.60 a month in Poland. Lodehost Camp costs €5.95 a month for Java in Germany, and Astroworld Camp costs €5.95 a month for Bedrock.

Can I upgrade a 2 GB server to 4 GB later?

Yes. All three hosts let you move to a bigger plan and keep your world, plugins and server address. The server restarts once and you do not need to set anything up again.

Is 2 GB enough for a modded Minecraft server?

Not for a real modded server. A server with content mods needs about 5 GB before anyone joins, and a large modpack about 8 GB. The exception is a few performance mods on Fabric, such as Lithium and FerriteCore, which make the server lighter instead of heavier and run fine on 2 GB. See modded Minecraft hosting for the right size.

2 GB or 4 GB for a Minecraft server?

Choose 4 GB for up to five players and 2 GB only for two or three. At Cheapest Minecraft Hosting the 4 GB plan costs €3.20 a month instead of €1.60, and that small step doubles the room for players who explore, build farms or add a few plugins.

Is 2 GB Minecraft server hosting free anywhere?

Free hosts exist, but they pause or shut down a server once nobody is playing, and that is the main thing a paid plan changes. A 2 GB plan that stays online day and night costs €1.60 a month at Cheapest Minecraft Hosting. Read free Minecraft server hosting for when a free host is enough.
