What can you run on a 16 GB Minecraft server?
A large modpack for about 8 players
The right size for a big modpack with a group of friends.
A modded server for about 22 players
Fabric or Forge with the mods you choose yourself.
A plugin server with about 28 players
At that size a fast processor matters as much as the memory.
24 GB on the standard line of Lodehost and Astroworld Hosting can cost less than 16 GB on the Performance line, so compare both before you choose.
Which hosts offer 16 GB Minecraft servers?
Cheapest Minecraft Hosting and Astroworld Hosting offer a 16 GB Minecraft server, and Lodehost does not. CheapestMinecraftHosting Pro gives you 16 GB on a shared Ryzen 9 7950X for €12.80 a month. Astroworld Advanced Performance gives you 16 GB on the Performance line for €40.95. Lodehost goes straight from 12 GB to 24 GB, and so does the standard line at Astroworld Hosting; the table at the top of this page shows those 24 GB plans as the next size up.
One useful detail: Astroworld Hosting sells its standard 24 GB plan at an end-of-line discount while that size is retired on the standard line, and Lodehost charges the same price, so 24 GB on the standard line can cost less than 16 GB on the Performance line. If your modpack uses a lot of memory but has few machines, more RAM on the standard line is the better choice. If it runs lots of tech mods with pipes and machines, the faster cores of the Performance line are worth more.
For 2 to 5 players with a large modpack on Java in Poland (Warsaw), the finder recommends Astroworld Hosting Advanced Performance: 16 GB, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5, for €40.95 a month when you pay monthly. As a new customer you pay €16.38 a month for the first 3 months, 60% off. The best plans at the other two hosts are Lodehost Premium at €46.95 and CheapestMinecraftHosting Pro at €12.80.

16 GB or 24 GB for a Minecraft modpack?
For a large modpack, count the players who are online together: up to eight fit on a 16 GB Minecraft server. Between eight and sixteen, choose 24 GB, which is often the better buy anyway: on the standard line at Lodehost and Astroworld Hosting, 24 GB costs €23.95 a month. If you run a heavy tech modpack with lots of machines, choose the faster cores of the Performance line before you add more RAM, because those machines all run on the main thread.
Before you buy a 16 GB Minecraft server
1
Count up to eight players
A large modpack runs about eight players on 16 GB. Between eight and sixteen, choose 24 GB.
2
Weigh RAM against cores
A pack full of machines needs fast cores more than extra RAM, and a big world with light mods needs the opposite.

Cheapest Minecraft Hosting and the Performance line of Astroworld Hosting sell exactly 16 GB. Lodehost does not.
