How much RAM does a Vault Hunters server need?
A Vault Hunters server needs about 12 GB of RAM for five players, 17 GB for ten players and 27 GB for twenty. The 3rd Edition has 168 mods, which puts it in our rule for packs of around 200 mods. What makes it heavier than the mod count suggests is the vaults: every vault is a dungeon the server generates from scratch when someone uses a crystal, and a group running several vaults at once makes the server build several at the same moment.
| Players online | RAM needed | Plan size | Lowest price for that size |

Astroworld Hosting lists Vault Hunters at 6 GB for up to three players, 8 GB for up to eight and 12 GB for up to sixteen. Those numbers work for a group that runs vaults one at a time. If your group raids in parallel, use ours.
Vault Hunters server requirements
A Vault Hunters server needs Forge for Minecraft 1.18.2, Java 17, enough RAM for your group and a fast core for vault generation. The base side of the pack is an ordinary modded base, with Mekanism, Create, Thermal, Botania, Refined Storage and Applied Energistics 2 for players who like to automate, and those machines tick on the same main thread as the vaults. The pack includes the spark profiler, so you can see how much of each tick goes into building a vault.
How to make a Vault Hunters server
A Vault Hunters server takes four steps, and the server pack brings the right configs:
- Order a plan with 12 GB or more, and pick Forge as the server software, or let the modpack installer set it.
- Install Vault Hunters 3rd Edition from the panel. At Astroworld Hosting the installer takes the server pack from CurseForge and sets Forge 40.3.11 for Minecraft 1.18.2 on Java 17.
- Pick the version your group plays. The newest release on 27 September 2026 was 3.21.7. Server and players must match exactly.
- Start the server and wait for Done, then share the address with your group.
Vault Hunters server files and server pack
The Vault Hunters server files are published next to each release of the 3rd Edition on CurseForge, and that server pack carries the configs, so the server starts with the same settings your players have. Use it instead of copying your client folder, which contains client-only mods that crash a server. Before every update, make a backup: vault content changes between releases, and the pack's own Simple Backups plus your host's nightly backups give you two ways back.
