How much RAM does a Homestead server need?
A Homestead server needs about 13 GB of RAM for five players, 18 GB for ten and 28 GB for twenty. Version 1.3.7 has 340 mods by Astroworld Hosting's count, 297 of them on the server, which puts Homestead with the large packs in our rule: about 8 GB to start and about 1 GB per player. Fabric and the speed mods in the pack, Lithium among them, make it lighter than a Forge pack of the same size, but they do not make it small.
| Players online | RAM needed | Plan size | Lowest price for that size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 to 5 | 13 GB | 16 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Pro, €12.80 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
| 6 to 10 | 18 GB | 24 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Crew, €19.20 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
| 11 to 20 | 28 GB | 32 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Guild, €25.60 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
The pack's own wiki agrees on the lower end. Its server pack page asks for at least 8 to 12 GB and more once three to five players join, while its start file ships with 6 GB in variables.txt, so change both 6G values in JAVA_ARGS="-Xmx6G -Xms6G" if you run it yourself. Astroworld Hosting plans 5, 7 and 9 GB for groups of up to three, eight and sixteen. The 6 GB, with 10 GB at most, that the wiki recommends elsewhere is for the game on each player's computer, not for the server.
Homestead server pack: where to download it
The Homestead server pack is on the pack's own wiki, not on CurseForge: the server pack page on cozystudios.org links server packs for releases from 1.0.2 up to 1.3.7. The server pack holds the mods and configs, a server.properties preset, start scripts for Windows, Mac and Linux and a HOW-TO-RUN.md with the steps.
The config folder is the part that matters. Homestead keeps its quest book in config/ftbquests, together with the tuned settings of its farming mods. Some one-click installs from CurseForge place only the server mods, and Astroworld Hosting's Homestead page says its installer works that way. The server then runs every mod on its defaults and the quest book stays empty. Upload the config folder from the server pack, or from your own Homestead install, before the first start.
How to make a Homestead server
A Homestead server takes 5 steps, and step 3 is the one people skip:
- Order 16 GB for up to five players, with Fabric as the server type.
- Install Homestead from the panel. Astroworld Hosting and Lodehost install CurseForge packs in one click, and Cheapest Minecraft Hosting from its Mods tab, with Fabric set for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Upload the config folder from the official server pack of the same version in the file manager, so the quests load.
- Pre-generate the land around spawn. Chunky is part of Homestead, so run
chunky radius 2000andchunky startin the console. The pack's terrain mods make every new chunk slower to build than vanilla. - Share the address and the version, 1.3.7 or the one you chose, so every player installs the same.
How to update a Homestead server
To update a Homestead server, replace 4 folders and keep the world: that is the whole method in the pack's own update guide. In order:
- Copy the world folder somewhere safe. It holds every build, inventory and quest.
- Download the new server pack from the wiki and unzip it somewhere else.
- On the server, delete config, mods, kubejs and scripts.
- Copy those 4 folders in from the new server pack.
- Put back any mods you added yourself, then start the server.
On a hosted server the file manager does all of this, and a backup from the panel replaces step 1. Ask your players to update their own pack to the same version before they join.
Homestead on peaceful: a cozy server without monsters
A cozy Homestead server works on peaceful, without monsters, because every hostile mob drop can be crafted: the pack's peaceful progression has recipes for gunpowder, ender pearls, blaze rods, ghast tears, slime balls, shulker shells and even the nether star and the dragon egg. Set difficulty=peaceful in server.properties and the server still gets every item that monsters would drop. Groups that want some danger can stay on normal and use the Tranquil Lantern instead, a block from the pack's own core mod that keeps mobs from spawning within 35 blocks of it.
Best Homestead server hosting plans
The best Homestead server hosting for five players is a 16 GB plan, and on a relaxed pack like this one the lowest price for that size is a sound choice.
