How much RAM does a Monifactory server need?
A Monifactory server needs about 12 GB of RAM for five players, 17 GB once ten people build factories and 27 GB for twenty. The server pack of Beta 0.13.8 holds 211 mods, which puts Monifactory with the packs of about 200 mods in our rule: about 7 GB before anyone joins and about 1 GB per player.
| Players online | RAM needed | Plan size | Lowest price for that size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 to 5 | 12 GB | 12 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Builder, €9.60 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
| 6 to 10 | 17 GB | 24 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Crew, €19.20 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
| 11 to 20 | 27 GB | 32 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Guild, €25.60 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
The pack's FAQ recommends 6 GB or more for servers and single player alike, and Astroworld Hosting's Monifactory page plans 6 GB for up to three players, 8 GB for four to eight and 12 GB for nine to sixteen. We size higher because a Monifactory world only grows. The pack keeps force-loaded chunks running while nobody is online, so the GregTech lines, AE2 networks and multiblocks of every player stay in memory and on the processor day and night.
Monifactory server pack: where to download it
The Monifactory server pack is a zip on the pack's GitHub releases page, published next to the client zip of each release; for Beta 0.13.8, from 27 August 2026, it is 241 MB. It holds the folders mods, config, config-overrides, defaultconfigs and kubejs, but not Forge itself or a start script. Stable releases come from CurseForge, and the makers say Monifactory will not come to Modrinth, because some of its mods are not available there.
To run it yourself, install the Forge 47.4.13 server for Minecraft 1.20.1 with java -jar and the installer's --installServer option, unzip the server pack into the same folder and start run.sh, which writes eula.txt the first time. Forge for 1.20.1 runs on Java 17. One optional client mod needs a copy on the server: if your players add ProjectRed Illumination, put the same jar in the server's mods folder, or the server crashes.
How to make a Monifactory server
A Monifactory server on a hosted plan takes 5 steps, and the first decision comes before the world exists:
- Pick a 12 GB plan for up to five players, or 24 GB for ten, and choose Forge as the server type.
- Install Monifactory from the panel's CurseForge search, in the release your group plays: 0.13.8 on 10 October 2026.
- Decide on Lost Cities before the first start. The urban ruins around spawn come from that mod, and the pack's FAQ says to remove it if you do not want them; land that is already generated keeps its ruins.
- Start the server, wait for Done and op yourself in the console, as our guide to op yourself on a Minecraft server shows.
- Share the address with the release number and the pack mode, Normal unless you switch it.
Monifactory Hard Mode and Expert Mode on a server
Monifactory Hard Mode and Expert Mode are switched on a server with 1 console command from the Moni Labs mod: packmode hard or packmode expert, and packmode normal to go back. It copies that mode's files from config-overrides into config, sets the difficulty in server.properties to peaceful and stops the server, so start it again afterwards. In the game the command needs operator level 4.
Every player then picks the same mode in their own game, by clicking the mode text on the main menu. A game in another mode has other configs, and the pack's known issues name the mod mismatch screen on joining as the result. Hard Mode forces peaceful and adds the Steam Age, harder platinum and naquadah lines and more weight on GregTech power, without Hostile Neural Networks or spending Monicoins. Expert comes on top of Hard: no RF to EU conversion, no LaserIO and GregTech machines that can explode.
Monifactory chunk loading: factories keep running
Monifactory chunk loading runs through FTB Chunks, and the pack sets force_load_mode to always with up to 100 force-loaded chunks per player, so a claimed factory keeps working while its owner and everyone else are offline. In many packs, force-loaded chunks stop with the last teammate who logs off; in Monifactory they never do, which is why its server rarely idles.
If the processor cannot keep up, lower max_force_loaded_chunks in the world's serverconfig/ftbchunks-world.snbt, or set force_load_mode to default, which keeps chunks loaded only while someone from the team is online. The pack copies that file from defaultconfigs into each new world, so change the copy in the world folder of a server that already runs.
Monifactory server problems and fixes
Monifactory server problems usually come down to one of these 5, each with its own sign:
| What you see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Mod versions do not match on joining | The player's pack mode or release differs from the server's | Switch their game to the server's mode in the main menu |
| KubeJS errors found, or an empty quest book | The pack was installed or updated the wrong way | Put in the 5 folders of the server zip again, from the same release |
| A Nether portal does not light | Monifactory turns off Nether and End portals | Travel between dimensions with the cakes from TelePastries |
| Ruins around spawn | Lost Cities generates them | Remove the mod before the world is generated |
| A crash on a superflat world | Lost Cities cannot generate one | Remove Lost Cities for a superflat server |
How to update a Monifactory server
To update a Monifactory server, back up the world, delete 5 folders, config-overrides, config, defaultconfigs, kubejs and mods, and copy the same 5 from the new server zip, as the pack's FAQ describes. A server on Hard or Expert then needs packmode again, because the new config folder starts in Normal.
Monifactory is still in beta and updates every few weeks: 0.13.4 came in April 2026, 0.13.5 and 0.13.6 in June, 0.13.7 in July and 0.13.8 in August. Agree on each move with your group, and keep a backup you can go back to; our Minecraft server backup guide explains how to restore one.
Monifactory vs GT New Horizons for a server
Monifactory and GT New Horizons are both GregTech packs, and for a server they differ in 4 ways: the Minecraft version, Java, the release and where the server files come from.
| Monifactory | GT New Horizons | |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft and loader | 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.13 | 1.7.10, Forge |
| Java on the server | Java 17 | Java 8, or Java 17 to 25 |
| Release on 10 October 2026 | Beta 0.13.8, from 27 August 2026 | 2.8.4, from January 2026 |
| Server files | A server zip on GitHub | The GTNH team's own server pack |
| RAM for five players | About 12 GB | About 12 GB |
Monifactory describes itself as a way to make GregTech approachable and fun. For the 1.7.10 pack that groups play for months, see GTNH server hosting.
Best Monifactory server hosting plans
The best Monifactory server hosting for five players is 12 GB on reserved threads, because a factory server works the processor more than the memory.
For 2 to 5 players with a modpack of about 200 mods on Java in Poland (Warsaw), the finder recommends Astroworld Hosting Standard Performance: 12 GB, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5, for €23.95 a month when you pay monthly. As a new customer you pay €9.58 a month for the first 3 months, 60% off. The best plans at the other two hosts are Lodehost Standard at €23.95 and CheapestMinecraftHosting Builder at €9.60.
| If you want | Host and plan | Memory | Processor | Location | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest price | CheapestMinecraftHosting Builder | 12 GB | AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5 | Poland (Warsaw) | €9.60 |
| Balanced | Astroworld Standard Performance | 12 GB | AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5 | Poland (Warsaw) | €23.95 (€20.95 on 24 mo) New customers: €9.58 a month for the first 3 months, 60% off |
| More performance | Astroworld Standard Performance | 12 GB | AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, DDR5 | Poland (Warsaw) | €23.95 (€20.95 on 24 mo) New customers: €9.58 a month for the first 3 months, 60% off |
Astroworld Standard Performance and Lodehost Standard put 12 GB on reserved Ryzen 9 threads for €23.95 and €23.95 a month. On a tighter budget, CheapestMinecraftHosting Builder has 12 GB on a shared Ryzen 9 7950X for €9.60. A group of ten needs about 17 GB, which means 24 GB, such as CheapestMinecraftHosting Crew for €19.20.
