Society: Sunlit Valley server hosting

Society: Sunlit Valley server hosting needs about 18 GB of RAM for ten players, because version 4.1.5A runs 311 of its 351 mods on the server, on Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. Here is how much RAM a Sunlit Valley server needs, what has to be on it, which settings only the server owner can change and how a group farms one valley together.

Two RAM sticks among Minecraft grass blocks: memory for a modpack server

The short answer

Five players on a Society: Sunlit Valley server need about 13 GB of RAM; ten need 18 GB, which means a 24 GB plan, and twenty need about 28 GB. Society: Sunlit Valley 4.1.5A runs Forge 47.4.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Java 17. Build the server from the CurseForge pack, because the Modrinth upload leaves out FTB Quests, FTB Chunks and other mods that are not on Modrinth.

What does a Society: Sunlit Valley server need?

A Society: Sunlit Valley server for ten players rests on 3 things:

  • 18 GB for ten players

About 18 GB by our rule for a large pack, three times the 6 GB the pack's guide recommends for playing it.

  • Forge 47.4.0 on Java 17

The same Forge build and pack version, 4.1.5A, on the server and in every player's launcher.

  • The kubejs folder

Shops, shipping bins, machines and villagers are KubeJS scripts, 5,290 files the server has to have.

Society: Sunlit Valley keeps its server options in kubejs/startup_scripts/_config.js, and the pack marks every one of them as a setting only the server needs to change.

How much RAM does a Society: Sunlit Valley server need?

A Society: Sunlit Valley server needs about 13 GB of RAM for five players, 18 GB for ten and 28 GB for twenty. With 351 mods in version 4.1.5A, Sunlit Valley sits in the large class of our rule, which starts at 8 GB for an empty server and adds about 1 GB for every player.

The pack's troubleshooting guide recommends 6 GB for playing Sunlit Valley, and some computers get by with 4 or 5. A server runs more than one player's game: the farms, barns, fish ponds and shipping bins of everyone online, plus the Skull Cavern for whoever is down there. The same guide warns that WorldEdit raises the pack's RAM use by a very large factor, especially on servers, and reports Axiom and Sinytra Connector working well instead.

Against memory leaks, the pack ships AllTheLeaks, a mod that fixes leaks in some mods and in Minecraft itself, next to ModernFix and FerriteCore. The guide lists one more performance setting that is off by default: mixin.perf.deduplicate_location=true at the bottom of config/modernfix-mixins.properties. It stays off because it makes loading take much longer, a cost a server pays only when it starts.

Society: Sunlit Valley server pack and server files

The Society: Sunlit Valley server pack is the same pack your players install, minus the 40 mods that only run in a player's game. On CurseForge, version 4.1.5A from 26 September 2026 lists 351 mods, and the pack's own build file marks those 40 as client only, from Embeddium to FancyMenu, so the server runs 311. Next to the mods, it needs 4 folders of the same version:

The folders a Society: Sunlit Valley 4.1.5A server needs next to its mods
FolderFiles in 4.1.5AWhat it holds
kubejs5,290Much of the pack's own game: shops, shipping bins, artisan machines, villagers and the Skull Cavern, in 188 server and 97 startup scripts
config1,079The quest book in config/ftbquests, the building blueprints and the settings of the farming mods
patchouli_books1,070The Farmer's Almanac and the Fish Finder books
defaultconfigs29Settings copied into each new world, such as the FTB Chunks claim limits

Build the server from the CurseForge pack. The Modrinth upload, 4.1.5B from 7 October 2026, leaves out the mods that are not on Modrinth, among them FTB Quests, FTB Chunks, FTB Teams and FTB Backups 2, and asks players to download those after the game starts. A server built from that file lacks the quest book and the land claims until you add those mods by hand.

Each of the three hosts we compare installs CurseForge packs for you: Astroworld Hosting and Lodehost with one click in the panel, Cheapest Minecraft Hosting in its Mods tab. Some of those installs only fetch the mods, which leaves a Sunlit Valley server without its shops, machines and villagers, so open the file manager afterwards and look for the 4 folders. If one is missing, upload it from your own copy of 4.1.5A: in the CurseForge app, right-click the pack and choose Open Folder.

How to set up a Society: Sunlit Valley server

Setting up a Society: Sunlit Valley server takes 6 steps, and steps 3 and 4 come before the first start:

  1. Take 24 GB for a group of ten, or 16 GB for up to five, with Forge as the server type.
  2. Install Society: Sunlit Valley 4.1.5A from CurseForge in the panel, the version every player has in their launcher.
  3. Look for kubejs, config, defaultconfigs and patchouli_books in the file manager, and upload whatever is missing.
  4. Set the options you want in kubejs/startup_scripts/_config.js and the season length, both explained below, while the server is still off.
  5. Start the server, wait for Done and give yourself operator rights in the console; our guide to op yourself on a Minecraft server has the command.
  6. Send your group the address and the version number. In the server list, a green checkmark below the player count tells each player that their version matches.

Chunky ships with the pack, so the console can generate the land around spawn ahead of time: chunky radius 1500, then chunky start. Run it before the group logs in, so the server is not generating new land while everyone explores.

Society: Sunlit Valley server settings

Society: Sunlit Valley server settings sit in 1 file, kubejs/startup_scripts/_config.js, with 8 options that the pack marks as ones only the server needs to change. Edit them with the server off, because each takes a full restart:

The 8 server options in Society: Sunlit Valley's _config.js, their defaults and what they do
OptionDefaultWhat it does
enableDeathDebttrueCharges a fee when a player dies, so nobody dies on purpose
subSeasonDuration10Days per sub-season for the seeds that unlock in year 2; must match seasons.toml
multiplayerSharestonesfalseGives every new player a White Sharestone at spawn, for visiting each other's bases
disableHammersSkullCaverntrueStops tools that break several blocks at once in the Skull Cavern, to prevent crashes
skullCavernHardmodefalseMakes blocks placed in the Skull Cavern decay after 30 seconds and torches after 1 minute
enableChatColorstrueColours a player's chat by the dye in their curio slot; turn it off if another chat mod does this
clockIcontrueShows the clock icon on the HUD
susFunctionLoggingfalseLogs extra detail to find the cause of crashes on large servers, and may flood the console

For a group, multiplayerSharestones is the one to switch on: the pack has no other way to get a White Sharestone. Leave enableDeathDebt on unless everyone agrees, because the pack advises against turning it off.

How to change the season length in Society: Sunlit Valley

To change the season length in Society: Sunlit Valley, put the same number of days in 2 places on the server: sub_season_duration in config/sereneseasons/seasons.toml and global.subSeasonDuration in kubejs/startup_scripts/_config.js. The default of 10 gives each season 3 sub-seasons of 10 days, so a season lasts 30 days and a year 120. At 20 minutes per Minecraft day, a default year takes 40 hours of play.

Players do not have to copy the number. In 4.1.5A and 4.1.5B, the server sends its sub-season length to every player at login, and their game takes it over. The pack's troubleshooting guide still describes the manual fix for shops that sell the wrong items or crops that will not grow in their season: set the server's number in the player's own config/sereneseasons/seasons.toml.

The calendar only moves while someone plays. The pack sets progress_season_while_offline to false, so an empty server keeps its season until the next player logs in.

How to play Society: Sunlit Valley multiplayer

To play Society: Sunlit Valley multiplayer, everyone joins one server on the same pack version, and the pack adds 4 things for groups: land claims, a shared bank account, a coin leaderboard and multiplayer pig races.

Claims come from FTB Chunks. Each player can claim up to 500 chunks to protect a farm and force-load 15 of them, and friends who form a party with FTB Teams share their claims and their quest progress. For a joint purse, buy a Blaze Banker from the Banker villager and give each player a White ID Card to bind; the player who placed the banker adds the cards, and a White Card in its bottom-left slot opens the shared account from a Bank Terminal.

The day is shared too. Everything in Sunlit Valley moves on at 6am, the hour a bed wakes you: shipping bins sell, crops grow, and artisan machines and farm animals take their next step. Minecraft only skips the night when every player on the server sleeps, so a group can type /gamerule playersSleepingPercentage 50 to let half of them skip it.

Force-loaded chunks follow their team, not the server. The pack leaves FTB Chunks on its default mode and has no permissions mod, so a team's force-loaded chunks load with its first member and unload when the last one logs off. To keep force-loaded farms running while their owners are offline, set force_load_mode to always in the world's serverconfig/ftbchunks-world.snbt. Hostile mobs do not spawn on the surface; they wait underground and in the Skull Cavern, a cave dimension that resets every day, and anyone still down there around 5:50am faints.

Society: Sunlit Valley server not working: common fixes

A Society: Sunlit Valley server that is not working usually shows one of these 6 signs:

For lag that none of these explain, the pack includes spark: type spark profiler start in the console, stop it a few minutes later with spark profiler stop and read the report it links. Our guide to Minecraft server lag explains what the report shows.

How to update a Society: Sunlit Valley server

To update a Society: Sunlit Valley server, follow the pack's FAQ in this order: turn the server off, back up the world and download the backup, upload the new server pack zip, delete the 5 folders config, defaultconfigs, kubejs, mods and patchouli_books, then extract the zip. The FAQ gives exactly these steps as the answer to KubeJS errors after an update, so do not skip the delete.

Your own changes to _config.js and seasons.toml sit in folders the update replaces, so note them down first and set them again afterwards. The FTB Chunks file in the world's serverconfig folder stays. Releases come often: 4.1.0, called Cozy Cafe, arrived on 24 July 2026, 4.1.1 to 4.1.5 followed in July, August and September, and 4.1.5A on 26 September. Our Minecraft server backup guide shows how to get a world back if an update goes wrong.

Society: Sunlit Cobblemon server: what changes

A Society: Sunlit Cobblemon server runs a separate pack, not an add-on: the same maker's spinoff, where Cobblemon helps with the farming, has its own version, 1.1.4-SSV4.1.5A from 26 September 2026, built on Sunlit Valley 4.1.5A. For a server, the 2 packs compare like this:

Before you start a Society: Sunlit Valley server

Before you start a Society: Sunlit Valley server, check 3 things:

  1. CurseForge, not Modrinth

The Modrinth upload leaves out the mods that are not on Modrinth, FTB Quests among them, so the server needs the CurseForge pack.

  2. The season length

It is set in 2 files on the server, and the server hands it to every player at login.

  3. Farms while you sleep

A team's force-loaded chunks only stay loaded while one of its members is online, unless you change the FTB Chunks mode.

Questions about Society: Sunlit Valley server hosting

How much RAM does a Society: Sunlit Valley server need?

About 13 GB for five players, 18 GB for ten and 28 GB for twenty. The pack's guide recommends 6 GB for playing it, but a server carries every player's farm, animals and machines, and WorldEdit pushes the RAM use up a lot.

Where do I get the Society: Sunlit Valley server files?

From the CurseForge version, 4.1.5A, by a one-click install in the panel or by uploading the pack's files yourself; the Modrinth version leaves out mods that are not on Modrinth. Besides the mods, the server needs the kubejs, config, defaultconfigs and patchouli_books folders of the same version.

Can you change the season length in Society: Sunlit Valley?

Yes. Set the same number of days in sub_season_duration in config/sereneseasons/seasons.toml and in subSeasonDuration in kubejs/startup_scripts/_config.js, then restart. The default is 10 days per sub-season, or 120 days a year, and the server sends its number to players when they log in.

Why does my game crash when I open the quest book on a Sunlit Valley server?

Your pack version differs from the server's, or one of you has mods the other lacks; the pack's troubleshooting guide names this as the cause. Check for the green checkmark below the player count in the server list before you join.

Is Society: Sunlit Valley on Minecraft 1.21?

No. It runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1, and its FAQ says a port to 1.21.1 or later is most likely not coming, because many of its mods are not updated past 1.20.1.

How much does a Society: Sunlit Valley server cost?

A Society: Sunlit Valley server for ten players needs 24 GB, which costs €19.20 a month on Cheapest Minecraft Hosting's shared Ryzen 9 7950X. Astroworld Hosting and Lodehost charge €46.95 and €46.95 for 24 GB on reserved Ryzen 9 threads, and five players fit in 16 GB from €12.80.
