How much RAM does a Medieval MC server need?
A Medieval MC server needs about 16 GB of RAM for eight players, 13 GB for five, 18 GB for ten and 28 GB for twenty. With 456 mods in version 39, MMC4 is a large pack by our rule, which means an 8 GB floor and roughly one more gigabyte for every player.
| Players online | RAM needed | Plan size | Lowest price for that size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 to 5 | 13 GB | 16 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Pro, €12.80 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
| 6 to 10 | 18 GB | 24 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Crew, €19.20 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
| 11 to 20 | 28 GB | 32 GB | CheapestMinecraftHosting Guild, €25.60 a month in Poland (Warsaw) |
The pack's own manifest recommends 10,000 MB for a single game, and Astroworld Hosting's Medieval MC page plans 8 GB for up to three players, 10 GB for four to eight and 14 GB for nine to sixteen. We size higher for a world that keeps growing: Towns and Towers, When Dungeons Arise and dozens of other structure mods fill every new chunk, and each MineColonies colony brings citizens the server has to move around.
Medieval MC MMC4 vs MMC5: which edition for a server
Medieval MC MMC4 and MMC5 are separate packs, and 2 more editions run on Fabric, so a server runs exactly 1 of these 4, in the same edition and version as every player:
| Edition | Minecraft and loader | Newest on CurseForge | CurseForge downloads |
|---|---|---|---|
| MMC4 | 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.13 | v39, 26 February 2026 | 985,000 |
| MMC5 | 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.228 | v33, 4 May 2026 | 271,000 |
| MMC3 | 1.21.1, Fabric Loader 0.19.2 | v32, 4 May 2026 | 410,000 |
| MMC2 | 1.20.1, Fabric Loader 0.17.3 | v31, 21 November 2025 | 217,000 |
MMC4 has by far the most downloads, and the rest of this page is about it. Each edition is a pack of its own with its own world, so ask your group which one they installed before you order; the server type follows from it: Forge for MMC4, NeoForge for MMC5 and Fabric for MMC2 and MMC3.
Medieval MC server pack: the config folder matters
The Medieval MC server pack for MMC4 has to bring the config folder, because the pack keeps part of its world there: config/paxi/datapacks holds 32 data packs, 13 of them Medieval MC's own, and the Paxi mod loads every one of them into every world. They set structure spacing, loot, recipes, Better Combat's weapon stats and the skill tree, so a server that only has the mods generates a world the pack was not tuned for.
Astroworld Hosting's Medieval MC page says version 39 has a server pack and that its installer uses it, so the configs arrive together with the mods. On any host, check after the install: datapack list in the console should show the pack's own data packs, such as mmc_spacing_tweaks and mmc_misc_recipes. Next to config, the server needs the defaultconfigs folder of the same version, which holds more than 1,000 files in v39.
Medieval MC on Modrinth: older versions
Medieval MC on Modrinth runs well behind CurseForge: the MMC4 page there stops at v30 from 8 February 2025, while CurseForge has v39 from 26 February 2026. The other editions show the same gap, with MMC5 at v18 on Modrinth against v33 on CurseForge.
A friend who installed from Modrinth brings a mod list from more than a year earlier, and Forge turns away a player whose mods do not match the server's. Point everyone to the CurseForge version, and set the server up from the same source.
How to make a Medieval MC server
A Medieval MC server for MMC4 takes 6 steps, and the fourth needs a mod the pack does not include:
- Order 16 GB for up to eight players, or 24 GB for ten, with Forge as the server type.
- Install MMC4 version 39 from CurseForge: in the panel at Astroworld Hosting and Lodehost, or from the Mods tab at Cheapest Minecraft Hosting.
- Look for config/paxi/datapacks and defaultconfigs in the file manager, and upload them from your own install of v39 if they are missing.
- Add Chunky, which the pack does not ship, and generate the land around spawn with
chunky radius 2500andchunky startbefore the group explores. - Start the server and give yourself operator rights, as our guide to op yourself on a Minecraft server shows.
- Share the address with the edition and version, MMC4 v39, so every launcher matches the server.
Pre-generating matters in Medieval MC: its structure mods build villages, towers, dungeons and ruins into each new chunk, and that work is better done before players arrive than while they explore.
Medieval MC dragons on a server: griefing settings
Medieval MC dragons do not break blocks on a server unless you change 1 setting: MMC4 sets Ice and Fire's "Dragon Griefing" = 2 in config/iceandfire-common.toml, which means no griefing. Set it to 1 to let dragons break weak blocks, or to 0 for Ice and Fire's full default. The value also follows Minecraft's mobGriefing rule, and tamed dragons obey the same setting.
2 other creatures keep their own switches, both on in MMC4: a cyclops breaks logs and leaves in its way, and a sea serpent breaks weak blocks. If a dragon fight makes the server stutter, spark is in the pack; our guide to Minecraft server lag shows how to read its report.
Medieval MC thirst and survival settings
Medieval MC switches on 1 survival need from the Survive mod in version 39: thirst. Its temperature, stamina, hygiene and nutrition systems are all off in the pack's configs, although the CurseForge page still lists stamina and temperature.
To turn thirst off, set "Boolean: Enable Thirst" = false in config/Survive Configs/thirst-common.toml, on the server and in every player's game so both sides agree, and restart. To add temperature, set "Boolean: Enable" to true in temperature-common.toml in the same folder.
How to update a Medieval MC server
To update a Medieval MC server, back up the world, then install the new version over the old one from the panel, or replace the mods, config and defaultconfigs folders with those of the new server pack and keep the world folder and server.properties.
MMC4 has not had a release since v39 on 26 February 2026, after v36 and v36.5 in September 2025, v37 and its hotfix in November and v38 on 4 December 2025, so a server on v39 is up to date in October 2026. Our Minecraft server backup guide explains how to restore a world if a future update goes wrong.
